Parenting Through the Tough Years: Tweens, Teens & Mental Health

Family Quality Time
Description:

Parenting teens and tweens with mental health challenges can be challenging—and it’s natural for parents to experience their own anxiety in the process. This group is a supportive, judgment-free space where parents can come together to build resilience, strengthen their connection with their children, and learn practical strategies to help manage things at home.

This group, based on the principles of Emotion Focused Family Therapy, combines psychoeducation with interactive discussions and exercises designed to help parents toward:

  • Cultivating Curiosity: exploring what gets in the way for us as caregivers in our relationship with our loved ones - what is preventing us from showing up as the caregivers we want to be?

  • Emotion Coaching: an advanced caregiving skill that supports emotion processing and regulation, and builds connection with your loved one.

  • Empathy and Emotional Regulation: uncovering the power of empathy and emotional regulation in interacting with our loved ones.

  • Therapeutic Apologies: offering a deeply validating apology to our loved one when we missed an opportunity to get it right.  An opportunity to learn about repairing ruptures in their relationships.
