Here for your next steps

As a therapist, I strive to create a space that is welcoming and supportive for you to feel heard and valued. I recognize that you are the expert of your own story and I am honored to work with each client in such a meaningful way.

My approach to counselling consists of weaving several evidenced-based therapies together in practice to best fit your individual needs. I blend elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness. I also have experience working with neurodivergent adults and their families by supporting a new diagnosis and skill building.

Before I was a therapist I worked as a Registered Dietitian that specialized in eating disorders. Although I am not practicing as a dietitian at The Therapy Place, I bring a non-judgmental, body-affirming lens to my practice that teaches a person to build self-compassion, confidence and body acceptance into their daily life. I will be supporting people with disordered eating and certain eating disorders in current practice.

Beyond my professional identity, I wear a few different hats. I am a proud former university athlete in volleyball and a devoted dog owner to my lab Jinx. Activity is a large part of my life and I enjoy exploring new trails around Vancouver Island or participating in different recreational sport leagues in Nanaimo.

I have completed all the course and clinical training of her master’s program and am currently applying to be a Registered Clinical Counsellor. In the interim, I will be working under the supervision of Ron Depner, RCC while my RCC application is being processed.  If it is important to you that sessions be covered by your insurance plan, please note that I am not yet eligible for insurance billings until my designation process is complete.

I am currently accepting new clients and would love the opportunity to work with you. Please use the booking link below to book a session or contact me through email at  kaitlyn@therapyplace.ca
